ISOPA shares its views on circular economy

As the European Union currently works towards improving waste management in Europe and turning our economy into a circular model, ISOPA wishes to actively contribute to the debate and share its views on how such transition could actually happen.

For decades, the polyurethane value chain has indeed developed resource-efficient solutions benefiting the environment and a myriad of sectors that are already playing a key role in the transition: construction, transport and appliances.

More innovation will come, as it always does. The question is: Where will they come from? A sensible policy framework is part of the solution and should support Europe’s competitiveness.

In such context, ISOPA would like to highlight 5 guiding principles:

  • LANDFILLING OF PLASTICS IS OBSOLETE
  • RECYCLING MUST BE SUSTAINABLE
  • WASTE TO ENERGY IS NEEDED
  • FEEDSTOCK RECYCLING NEEDS TO BE SUPPORTED
  • EXTENDED PRODUCERS’ RESPONSIBILITY SCHEMES MUST BE FLEXIBLE

In the coming months, ISOPA, and the polyurethane value chain at large, is looking forward to engaging with regulators and other industries to share best practices; this productive dialogue will be the key to cost-efficiently unlock Europe’s potential.
